Linea Chain
What is Linea Chain?
Linea is an Ethereum L2 that uses zero-knowledge proofs with Type-2 zkEVM execution (EVM-equivalent at the bytecode level), designed to provide an Ethereum-like experience for both developers and users.
The zkEVM system is the key of Linea's goal of security and scalability, as zero-knowledge proofs allow users to prove information without having to reveal underlying details. For example, a user can prove they have a certain amount of ETH in their wallet without actually showing their wallet's balance.
In terms of scalability, it creates an environment where, instead of every Ethereum node re-executing each transaction, they only need to verify a succinct zero-knowledge proof that the computation was done correctly. This drastically reduces the computational load on Ethereum, allowing many more transactions to be batched and settled securely on-chain at lower cost and higher throughput.
Its origins stem from Consensys, a blockchain software company whose protfolio includes development of MetaMask and Infura.
With Nicolas Liochon (head of applied research at Consensys) and Declan Fox (Product lead at Consensys) at the helm, Linea purposely became decentralized from Consensys with the launch of the Linea Association, an independent Swiss non-profit organization.
Since its mainnet launch in August 2023, Linea has become the fastest-growing zkEVM on Ethereum, with its TVL sitting at 1.337 billion as of September 9, 2025.
The chain's momentum isn't slowing down, as the LINEA token, launching on September 10, 2025 is expected to continue driving adoption and new users.
Linea Airdrop
Linea has officially launched its token, LINEA, alongside one of the largest Layer 2 airdrops to date. With 9,361,298,700 LINEA allocated to be shared across 749,662 eligible addresses, this distribution is designed to reward early users, developers, and liquidity providers who supported the ecosystem from the start.
The most important dates for users to have in mind are:
Claim Window: September 10, 2025 – December 9, 2025
Unclaimed Tokens: Any tokens not claimed by the deadline will be redirected to the Linea ecosystem fund
The airdrop focuses on rewarding participants who actively contributed to Linea’s early growth. To qualify, users generally needed to meet at least one of the following criteria:
Linea Voyage Campaigns: Earned at least 2,000 LXP points across seven participation tiers. More information on the tiers can be found here.
Linea Surge Program: Provided liquidity during the LXP-L Surge campaign, with additional boosts for active liquidity providers.
How to Check Eligibility for Linea Airdrop:
Visit the Linea Hub Airdrop Checker
Connect your wallet (e.g., MetaMask)
Review your eligibility status and token allocation.
Return on or after September 10, 2025 to claim your tokens.
Claim before December 9, 2025 to avoid losing your allocation.
DeFi Protocols on Linea
Another factor that shows Linea's potential is the growth of DeFi protocols on the chain. Some of the most prominent ones running on Linea Mainnet include:
Aave, with a TVL of $863 million, making it the largest DeFi protocol on the chain.
Renzo with a TVL of $340 million
Etherex with a TVL of $266 million
Euler with a TVL of $113 million
Given that Aave is the biggest protocol on the chain, DeFi Saver has integrated Aave on Linea. This provides users with the option of using DeFi Saver's signature position management tools on Linea.
