Plasma Chain
What is Plasma Chain?
Plasma is a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain built specifically for stablecoin payments at global scale, offering instant transfers, low (or zero) fees for USDâ‚®, and full EVM compatibility. The PlasmaBFT consensus protocol is the key to Plasma's goal of speed and efficiency, as it provides rapid finality and low latency while maintaining security. For example, users can transfer USDT without fees, enabling borderless digital transactions without intermediaries.
In terms of scalability, it supports over 1000 transactions per second with block times under 1 second, drastically reducing costs and increasing throughput for high-frequency payments compared to traditional blockchains.
Its origins stem from co-founder Paul Faecks, a DeFi entrepreneur who previously launched the fintech startup Alloy in 2021. With backing from prominent investors like Peter Thiel's Founders Fund, Bitfinex-linked entities, and advisors such as Paolo Ardoino (CEO of Tether), Plasma has raised over $20 million in funding to develop its Bitcoin-inspired network optimized for stablecoins.
Since its mainnet beta launch on September 25, 2025, Plasma has quickly achieved a TVL of $2.653 billion as of September 26, 2025.
The chain's momentum is building rapidly, as the XPL token, launched on September 25, 2025, is expected to drive further adoption and ecosystem growth.
Yield opportunities on Plasma
Yield Opportunities for XPL on Plasma offers several yield opportunities for holders of its native token, XPL, primarily through staking and ecosystem incentives designed to reward network participants and support long-term growth.
Additionally, there has been considerable growth in DeFi apps on Plasma, including:
Aave
As the leading lending protocol, the opportunities mainly revolve around favorable supply APYs, with strategies including:
Supplying USDT0 for protocol yield, and additional WXPL points from Merkl
Ethena's liquid leverage strategy, where users supply a 50/50 split of USDe and sUSDe to receive yield and Merkl rewards
Boosted Net APYs through leveraging with stablecoins to capitalize on high supply APYs, and favorable borrow APYs
Plasma on Aave is available through DeFi Saver, so users are able to execute 1-transaction leveraging in order to farm stablecoin yields.
Fluid
As of September 26, 2025 - the supply cap for USDT0 on Fluid has been reached, showcasing both the protocols popularity and demand for yield farming on Plasma. Opportunities on Fluid are similar to those on Aave, as they revolve around supplying:
USDT0
USDe
WETH
With additional XPL rewards to boost the yield on the supplied assets.
Euler
Supplying stablecoins like USDT0, USDe or specialized assets (e.g. USR, wstUSR, RLP from Resolv, etc...) allows user to earn ~20-23% APY
Along with the base supply yield, this also includes XPL rewards.
